Dental Care
If your dog is undergoing anesthesia (for a dental cleaning for example), you have the option to collect some tissue now and have it sent to us. We will preserve it for future use. You pay a minimal fee upfront and the balance if and when you need it (ask your veterinarian about our Stemlnsure program).

Chinese medicine and acupuncture date back almost 3000 years ago before the invention of technology and diagnostics in humans. With that said, the main focus is on the very thorough history and physical exam, inserting needles in acupoints to improve nerve function and blood flow, Chinese herbs, and dietary changes. The “qi” or energy is the life force of the body. In order to have a healthy body, it must be balanced or good flow of qi. If this is disrupted, subsequent disease occurs. Ideally, acupuncture is utilized to treat the presenting complaint or issue and also treating the individual as a whole preventatively.

Heart Disease Treatment
All surgical patients are intubated (using isoflurane anesthesia) and are monitored constantly by a trained veterinary technician. Your pet’s pulse oximetry, respiration and EKG are all monitored closely during surgery. Warmed fluids are used during every procedure as is an IV catheter for fast administration of medicine.

Wound and Fracture Care
As a full service hospital, we have the capabilities for a wide range of surgeries, from soft tissue surgeries (such as lump removals or laceration repairs) to orthopedic surgeries (such as fractured bones or knee repairs). These procedures are all done in-house, usually out patient, with the patients generally going home that day or the next.

Dr. Guayasamin has lived in Sunny San Diego for the last 17 years. Dr. Guayasamin speaks both English and Portuguese. He graduated from Western University Veterinary School in Pomona, California in May of 2008. Following graduation, “Dr. G” completed a small animal surgery and medicine internship in San Diego. There he gained valuable experience in emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery and exotic animal medicine. Dr. Guayasamin has a special interest in internal medicine and exotics. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and San Diego Veterinary Medical Association. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, going to the beach and taking his puppy ‘Glo’ to dog beach.
