General Info: Austin Women's Health Center was founded in 1976 with the belief that everyone deserves access to high-quality reproductive health care in a private and personal setting. AWHC is led by two physicians, Dr. Tad Davis a board-certified OB/GYN surgeon, and Dr. Jessica Rubino. Our staff includes specialized and experienced nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and counselors. At AWHC we are dedicated to your care.

Primary Care
Our priority is ensuring that every person can get the reproductive health care that they need. You can come to Austin Women’s Health for Early Pregnancy Assessment, routine and urgent gynecological and primary care, and family planning services.
Family Practice
Ms. Ridout has been specializing in Woman’s Health and Family Practice for over 25 years. Before moving to Texas, she practiced in Arkansas, where she was affiliated with the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Center, Sheiron Family Practice and the Arkansas Department of Health. She began practicing with Dr. Davis in January 2007.
Immunizations

Gynecology
Our office is the private practice of a Board Certified OB/GYN physician, and female nurse practitioner. Both offer complete gynecology and primary medical care, applying the same patient-centered philosophy as they apply in their abortion care. Our physician is also a highly skilled surgeon, specializing in complex gynecological procedures. We encourage you to return to AWHC for well-woman care, including annual exams and pap smears, and for our family planning services, birth control and fertility consultations.

Dr. Davis is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and board certified in advanced operative laparoscopic surgery with admitting privileges to all Austin area hospitals. He has been a clinical faculty member at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and Texas A&M Health Science Center. He is also a proud member of the American Medical Association, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Travis County Medical Association
Endometriosis
Pelvic Pain
Is a complication of untreated STDs such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. PID can damage reproductive organs, leading to infertility and chronic pelvic pain. For many people, the most common symptom of PID is lower abdominal pain. Symptoms that could indicate PID include fever, painful intercourse, discharge with a foul odor, painful urination, irregular menstrual bleeding, and, rarely, pain in the upper right abdomen. PID is treated with antibiotics.
Pregnancy
If you think you are pregnant, we encourage you to confirm with pregnancy testing or ultrasound at our office. A pregnancy test, ultrasound, or exam by a medical professional are the most accurate methods of confirming a pregnancy.

Ovarian Cancer
When learning about the link between birth control and cancer, it’s also significant to underscore that birth control decreases the risk of ovarian cancer, which is often difficult to treat, as well as endometrial and colorectal cancer. The relationship between birth control’s potential to decrease certain risks of cancers is greater than its risk of causing cancer.
Cervical Cancer
The pap smear is a screening test for cervical cancer. A speculum is inserted into the vagina so that the clinician can see the cervix and take a sample of cells with a brush. If a pap smear result is abnormal, it does not mean that you have cervical cancer. It means that further testing (HPV testing and/or colposcopy) should be done to determine what abnormality is present, if any. These tests are sent to an outside lab and we normally will receive results within a week

Found that out of 3,320 college-age students, those taking hormonal birth control had lower scores of depression than those not taking hormonal birth control. For some people, the knowledge that they are taking an effective method to reduce their risk of unintended pregnancy can help alleviate anxiety.

Chemotherapy
When menopause occurs before age 45, it’s considered early menopause. Early menopause occurs in about 5% of AFAB individuals. There can be many reasons for early menopause. Some causes include family history, surgery that removes the ovaries or uterus, radiation and/or chemotherapy, decreased estrogen and egg production, chemical imbalances, an autoimmune disorder, and smoking.

Hysterectomy
Let’s look at the difference between hysterectomy and ablation to help you understand the differences and potential prepare for the procedure. Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus vs. an ablation which is a less invasive medical procedure that removes the uterine lining permanently.
